Stork Craft issues largest crib recall
Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc. is a company out of British Columbia, Canada and they have just announced the largest recall of a baby crib in history. They are recalling 1.2 million drop side cribs that were distributed in both USA and Canada. With an entrapment and suffocation hazard and having 110 reports of side detachment of the crib. 15 entrapment’s and 4 suffocation of infants. Their have also been reports of 20 infants who have fallen from the crib. Plastic hardware on the drop side could break or parts could become loose, or the side can be installed incorrectly. These issues can cause the drop side to detach, causing enough space between the side and the mattress that poses an entrapment and suffocation hazard for a baby. Detachment of the crib side can cause the baby to fall out of the crib, risking injury.
Manufacture and distribution dates for the crib are between October 1997 and December 2004 including about 147,000 Stork Craft drop-side cribs with the Fisher-Price logo. The recall involves approximately 1,213,000 units distributed in the United States and 968,000 units distributed in Canada. The cribs were available in a variety of styles, and were sold at retailers such as Walmart, Target, and BabiesRUs for between $100 and $400.
It is in the parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the recalled cribs and wait for the free repair kit, and do not attempt to fix the cribs without the kit. You should find an alternative and safe sleeping environment for your baby. Consumers should contact Stork Craft to receive a free repair kit that converts the drop-side on these cribs to a fixed side ASAP.
